Flip flops are simply huge in the Philippines. Would that be because we love the native tsinelas so much?
Well, I just love flip flops. They give me much, much comfort when my feet get tired with heels too high, and they just give me that laid back feel. I wear flip flops whenever I go to the mall, feel lazy, or just go somewhere near. In other words, it’s a staple in my life.
Havaianas makes such gorgeous flip flops that elevated flip flops from household footwear to fashion statements. I can’t believe it’s been five years since Havaianas has taken the Philippine market by storm! I was a very, very happy girl awhile ago to be able to get a pair of my very own personalized Havaianas during the Make Your Own Havaianas 2010 which runs from April 22- 26 at the Rockwell Tent.
Make Your Own Havaianas is a very unique event ( only in the Philippines! ) that you get to customize your own Havaianas – choose the color and style of your sole, straps, and even get to choose embellishments such as special pins. I remember when I was in Singapore last year, my friends there would tell me how much they love my Havaianas, which I got from last year’s Make Your Own Havaianas Event. It was all blinged up, with the perfect colors for me.
Well, what do they have this year?

What’s special about this year is that Make Your Own Havaianas is on its fifth year! With that, they came up with commemorative MYOH soles in black, and white. They also have new colors for their straps – they have shocking fluorescent-colored straps, and jelly straps. They also have an interesting set of pins that you can bling up your pair of Havaianas with, take a look!

Okay, time to make my pair! Thanks to the friendly Gary who chatted with me as I was deciding on what embellishments I’d love.

I’ll let you in a secret – my design wasn’t totally original. I was going to settle for the same old classic design, until my eyes peered to my right, with the cute, and happy little girl so excited about her new pair of Havaianas. Her name’s Mae. Take a look at her lovely pair!

Okay, if it was possible, I would have copied her entire concept ( copycat! ) but then, her pins that spelled M-A-E would be another story for pins spelling S-O-P-H-I-E. It would totally take all the space of the strap! So okay, forget it.

So there, my new spankin’ pair of Havaianas. I chose to “bling” up my pair with the dolphin pin, as it was just lovely and it reminded me of the beach, the butterfly pin, as it was a lovely citrus green and it just looked so feminine, the flower pin, as it was all dainty and classy, and the hearts pin as it looked cute. I chose to pass on the must-get pins “limited” and the MYOH pin, as my sole was already printed with the MYOH design. What a precious pair! I also noticed that last year’s pins were significantly smaller than this year’s. This year’s pins were really bigger.
I totally love my new pair of Havaianas. Looks like I’ll save this for a fabulous beach vacation as I’m not wearing this just for my everydays! Hahaha! This pair looks too precious to be worn everyday. ( crazy Sophie )

Well, this definitely made my week! I encourage you to brave the crowds tomorrow and get yourself a personalized pair of Havaianas. They’re pretty great this year!
